Texas Board of Education, Dist. 10-Democratic Candidates

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

judy1. Judy Jennings: Ph.D. in educational psychology; currently Director of Assessment at Resources for Learning, specializing in education policy.

sadun2. Lorenzo Sadun: Professor of Mathematics, University of Texas.

Should Texas choose (A) Science and Education, or (B) the Dark Ages? If you answered (A), you clearly are not on the TX Board of Education from District 10. Here’s a small sample of Republican incumbent Cynthia Dunbar’s Statements:

  • On ‘Culture War’: “We are fighting a culture war, and I have news for all the pastors and church members who have refused to get down and dirty in the trenches: The battle lines are drawn along party lines.”
  • On public education: “One need not wonder long why the enemy chose such a subtly deceptive tool of perversion.”
  • On political moderates: “The Scriptures…place these lukewarm persons on the side of evil…Though they constitute the majority of our culture, God promises to spew them out of His mouth.”
  • On Obama’s pro-choice position: The “fascist, supremacist attitude exhibited by Mussolini and Hitler.”

This is your current elected district representative. Obviously we can do better. Heck, a Barton Creek Salamander would be a better SBOE representative than Dunba.

Fortunately, we have two seriously better Democratice hopefuls. Despite Dunbar, Texas education is no laughing matter – or at least it shouldn’t be. Please come meet the democratic candidates. This program is far too important to miss.
