Last year, Katie Naranjo was in Egypt and met some of the young opposition leaders who have been involved in the extraordinary recent changes.  She’ll open our program with a brief report from her contacts on the front lines.

Program: The State Budget: How bad is it? What would a rational legislature do to fix it? But what will the Texas Legislature do?

Speakers:

Sherri Greenberg – Lecturer and Center for Politics and Governance Interim Director, LBJ School of Public Affairs; Former State Representative. Sherri’s financial and budget expertise is well-known in Austin and at the Lege. She’s bright, keenly analytical, and knows how the process works.

Dick Lavine – Senior Fiscal Analyst, Center for Public Policy Priorities: Dick is one of the foremost experts in Texas on state tax and revenue issues. Previously he was a Senior Researcher at the House Research Organization of the Texas House, where he focused on budget and tax issues. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, magna cum laude, from Harvard College and a J.D, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.

Parking: 816 Congress Avenue/IBC Bank parking garage. Enter the parking garage on 9th Street, between Colorado and Congress. Bring your ticket to the receptionist on the 7th floor and you will be given a coupon to use to exit the garage at no charge.
