Pulitzer Prize Winner Ben Sargent: How Does He Do It?

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Ben Sargent is an Austin icon and a national treasure — an extraordinary political cartoonist.

Nationally syndicated, his cartoons appear in newspapers and on web sites all over the world. Locally, his cartoons appear in Sunday’s Austin American-Statesman and monthly in the Texas Observer feature called “Loon Star State.”

With a simple drawing and a few words, Ben can capsulize a complex issue and lampoon the powerful and the foolish. It’s a rare art form, and Ben’s the best. He’s also a great raconteur and wit in person—and he’s really tall.

Come hear how Ben performs his artistic magic, see his wonderful slides, and hear about his fascinating career path from Amarillo to journalism to political cartooning to steam train conducting — and much more. We guarantee this will be great entertainment!

Speaker: Ben Sargent has been wielding his mighty pen (and sometimes brush) for more than 30 years. He loves politics, trains and beer — sometimes in reverse order.

2. Obama 2012 bumper stuckers.
