Luncheons for August, 2011

State Rep. Joaquin Castro, Candidate for U.S. Congress, District 35

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

According to current reports, the race for the newly created Congressional District 35 is likely to be a primary contest between Congressman Lloyd Doggett and State Representative Joaquin Castro. If that race materializes, it will be hard-fought and dramatic. (Various pending court battles over redistricting may affect the composition of the districts.)

Representative Castro currently represents Texas House District 125.  He serves as Vice-Chair of the Higher Education Committee and is a member of the Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee. His twin brother, Julian Castro, is the mayor of San Antonio. The brothers grew up in San Antonio, and Joaquin is a graduate of Harvard Law School. Joaquin was elected to the Texas House in 2002 at age 28.  He practices law and has taught at both St. Mary’s University and Trinity University.

Please come join us to hear Representative Castro tell us about his career, this past Session and the congressional campaign.
